About this race
Camino De Los Muertos is a Dia de los Muertos-themed trail race held at LLELA, a natural area in Lewisville, Texas, near Dallas-Fort Worth. Runners can select distances from a 5K up to a 100K, with 10K, 25K, and 50K options available, alongside a 1-mile youth trail run for children 12 and under. The event caters to various participants: short-distance runners, families, ultrarunners, and individuals supporting the preserve share the same venue.
The races begin at 201 E. Jones St. and utilize the trails and ecosystems within LLELA. This area has a history: it was originally wild land with native species, then was farmed post-settlement, later condemned for flood control after the Lewisville Lake dam's completion, and eventually remained a green space surrounded by suburban development. LLELA, the University of North Texas, and the City of Lewisville collaborate on restoring native plants, trees, and animal life there, with the race contributing to this effort. Participants are given both gun time and chip time, though awards are determined by gun time.
