About this race
The Tucker Tour begins in East Andover, New Hampshire, on an October morning. Registration opens at 7:00 a.m., with riders departing at 8:00. This 80-mile, self-supported ride connects Class VI roads encircling Mount Kearsarge and Ragged Mountain in central New Hampshire. Class VI roads are public routes that towns have not maintained for at least five years, making the course rougher than a typical gravel ride from the outset.
The route combines pavement, gravel, steep unmaintained roads, woods tracks, and sections requiring dismount. Approximately 15 miles are paved, while about 38 miles consist of unmaintained Class VI roads, increasing the ride's difficulty beyond its stated distance. Riders navigate using a provided GPX or Strava route, without cue sheets or course markings. Careful planning for food and water is essential, as the route includes only two potential stops at general stores or gas stations, around miles 19 and 54. The Class VI segments are rated for difficulty using a system similar to Paris-Roubaix's star ratings, but with a maximum of five beaver emojis, indicating sections that are unrideable and must be traversed on foot.
