About this race
The Columbia Duathlon, held on Columbia Gateway Drive in Columbia, Maryland, is an early-season multisport race featuring a flat loop with a single hill. The adult sprint consists of a run-bike-run: 2 miles running, 10 miles cycling, followed by a 2-mile run. Two youth races are also offered, one for ages 7-10 and another for ages 11-15, allowing families to participate on the same day.
The course is suitable for beginners because of its short distances and fast terrain, attracting experienced racers seeking a post-winter training test. The younger youth race includes a 0.5-mile run, a 2-mile bike ride, and a 0.5-mile run. The older youth race concludes with a 1-mile run after the initial 0.5-mile run and 2-mile bike. This USA Triathlon sanctioned event is promoted as the Mid-Atlantic's largest duathlon competition and frequently sells out. Participants receive a medal, and to maintain course clarity, pets, strollers, skates, and unauthorized wheeled vehicles are prohibited.
