About this race
Dizzy Fifties is a Huntsville Track Club trail race held at Monte Sano State Park in Huntsville, Alabama. The John Scoble Memorial Pavilion serves as the start and finish point. Participants can select from 50K, 20-mile, or 10-mile distances, all utilizing the same approximate 10-mile figure-eight loop. The 50K covers three loops, the 20-mile race covers two, and the 10-mile race covers one. Each loop involves a climb of about 1,000 feet, resulting in approximately 3,000 feet of elevation gain for the full 50K.
The loop incorporates sections of the South Plateau Loop, Firetower, and Family Bike Trail, where runners might encounter cyclists. Approximately 6.4 miles into each loop, the course nears the pavilion aid station before descending from the plateau via Logan-Keith and ascending Sinks. Runners check in at the arch after completing each loop. 50K participants must begin their final loop by early afternoon to meet the overall race cutoff. The event is cupless, providing participants with a reusable cup, and aid stations are supplied with a variety of sweet, salty, and traditional trail food. Organizers characterize it as a grassroots trail race with a relaxed community atmosphere.
