Eye of the Dragon 10K & Tail of the Lizard 2 Mile 2027

The Eye of the Dragon 10K takes runners out and back over the Eau Gallie Causeway and the Indian River in Melbourne, Florida, beginning at the Eau Gallie Civic Center. This February road race centers on a USATF-certified 10K, with the Tail of the Lizard 2 Mile available for those seeking a shorter distance. The 10K is not a flat course; the causeway climb is a key feature. Runners aiming for the complete challenge can register for Slay the Beast, which involves racing both distances on the same morning. The event is part of the Space Coast Runners Runner of the Year Series, attracting local club runners competing for points and finish times. Slay the Beast has a limit of 475 participants, and those who finish this challenge receive three medals for completing both races. Awards are substantial for competitive local runners, including categories for overall, masters, grand masters, senior grand masters, adaptive athletes, age groups, and co-ed teams across the races. The course records are fast enough to provide a clear target for top finishers, and any runner breaking a 10K or 2 Mile record receives a $100 bonus. Race proceeds benefit the Space Coast Runners Christian Lake Memorial Scholarship Fund, with Running Zone managing timing and Power of Pizza Charities overseeing the event.
