About this race
Fire on the Mountain is a fall trail ultramarathon in Green Ridge State Forest, Maryland, located within more than 48,000 acres of public forest. The primary race is a 50K, approximately 32.8 miles, with a 25K option of about 16.3 miles. Both races primarily utilize the red and green trails, and the 50K follows an out-and-back course.
The full course has an elevation gain and loss of roughly 5,387 feet by unofficial GPS estimate, featuring seven aid stations and a midpoint oasis; three aid stations are visited twice. The 25K includes about 6.5 miles of rooty, rocky singletrack and approximately 9.6 miles of forest service roads and improved roads. Runners may send drop bags to Aid Station 4 at mile 16.4, and packet pickup is available off-site at Locust Post Brewery. The red trail is notable: run in reverse, it makes the return trip steeper and rougher, presenting challenging climbs, obstacles requiring careful navigation, and sections where the path is indistinct.
