About this race
The Freedom Run 5K & Kids Run is an annual military-themed community race featuring a 5K run/walk, a 1-mile fun run/walk, the Tyson Double Time Loop, and the IHMVCU Brigade of Kids Races. The event is intended for local military members and their families, but anyone can run, walk, roll, cheer, volunteer, or sponsor. Its purpose is to thank those who serve or have served in the Army, Coast Guard, Marines, Air Force, and Navy.
The race strongly embraces its tribute theme. An authentic Civil War cannon starts the race, a WWII Army jeep serves as the pace car, military vehicles are present along the course, and over 100 volunteers hold American flags. Finishers receive dog-tag medals presented by real soldiers, participants get military-style shirts, and awards include soldier-statue trophies. Some participants aim for a personal best, while others run in memory of parents or grandparents who served, or in honor of close family members currently in the military.
