About this race
Frozen Yeti is a winter trail race at Hale Education in Westwood, Massachusetts, organized by the Trail Animals Running Club. Participants can select either a 15-mile night race or a 30-hour ultra, accommodating those seeking a challenging looped run and runners aiming to accumulate miles during the cold season. Registration begins in October; the race typically sells out, and its entry policies are firm: no refunds, transfers, or deferrals, barring emergencies.
The course covers approximately 15 miles, divided into three distinct loops of about five miles each. Each loop commences and concludes at Powissett Lodge, marked by red, blue, and white entrances, pink surveyor’s ribbon, reflective tape, and directional arrows at key junctions. For the 30-hour race, loops are systematically closed and cleared toward the conclusion, requiring participants to run a single loop during the final hours. The race conditions can be severely wintry; past participants have encountered deep snow, sub-freezing temperatures, and wind chills near -15F, with top finishers covering 70 to 75 miles before time expired.
