About this race
The Home for Freedom Marathon begins and ends at the pavilion in Lucy Park, a 178-acre park along the Wichita River in Wichita Falls, Texas. The race weekend features three distances: a full marathon, a half marathon, and a 5K fun run/walk, with the main races set for a Saturday in October. The full marathon is 26.2 miles, the half marathon is 13.1 miles, and the 5K is 3.1 miles, offering serious runners, newer runners, walkers, and local families a way to participate on the same day.
The route takes runners through the center of Wichita Falls, using Lucy Park as its base. The park features mature pecan and cottonwood trees and a swinging bridge over the Big Wichita River near the start and finish area. A Friday spaghetti dinner is planned for participants, along with packet pickup; race-day packet pickup is not available. Awards are given to the top three overall male and female finishers, plus the top three in age groups from 19 and under through 70 and over. The race is organized by Home for Freedom, a local nonprofit that builds tiny homes for veterans facing housing insecurity. The marathon supports this work, with the first completed tiny home already occupied by a veteran.
