About this race
The Janesville Kids Triathlon is an annual youth triathlon held at Rockport Pool on Rockport Road in Janesville, Wisconsin. It offers children a short, structured swim-bike-run race: younger participants swim 40 meters in the pool, while 11- and 12-year-olds swim 80 meters. All participants then bike 2.5 miles and run 0.5 miles. The event is designed for young athletes new to triathlon in a low-pressure environment, featuring professional timing, event shirts, and a field limited to 150 racers.
The race emphasizes learning the basics alongside finishing quickly. A free Transition Clinic and Q&A session on the Friday before race day allows children to familiarize themselves with the pool, bike course, and run path, and to practice transitions. One parent may assist with setup in the transition area, volunteers provide support with gear and changes, and parents are asked not to accompany participants on the bike and run routes. Awards are given to the fastest finishers in each age group. Younger children, ages 2 to 6, can participate in the Race The Gator Fun Run, a brief run on the final section of the triathlon course, where parents and strollers are permitted.
