About this race
The John Holmes Trail Run is a small Florida trail race at Croom Park in the Withlacoochee State Forest, offering 50K, 16-mile, and 9-mile distances. The 50K is noted as the oldest 50K trail run in the Southeast. The event is capped at 250 runners, fostering a close trail-community atmosphere rather than a large road-race production.
The course utilizes the Croom trails. The shorter distances provide the same forest-race setting without requiring a full ultra commitment. Originally named the Croom Trail 50K, the race was renamed to honor founder John Holmes, a longtime figure in the Croom trail community. Participants receive race shirts and awards. The event highlights its post-race food and volunteer support as key aspects of the day.
