About this race
The KC Metro Mile Championships features a night of track racing at Rockhurst High School in Kansas City, Missouri, with each main race centered on the mile. Rather than a single large road-race field, the meet divides into 18 distinct races, covering the Open Community Mile, Kids Open Mile, middle school, high school, masters, open, and elite divisions. A flat entry fee covers registration, with an optional Mizuno event shirt available. KC Running Company, Mizuno, and B and B Race KC present the event.
The format ensures close racing: qualifier events are limited to a maximum of 24 runners per race, and athletes provide recent times during registration. These times are verified, and runners not meeting the final standard for a qualifying race receive a refund of their entry fee. The Kids Mile and Community Mile are open to all participants, while the faster sections have specific standards: sub-4:20 for the Elite Men’s Mile, sub-5:30 for the Elite Women’s Mile, sub-4:59 for high school boys, and sub-5:59 for high school girls. The inclusion of 800-meter showcase races provides the evening with a meet-style flow instead of a single start-to-finish competition.
