About this race
Lady of the Mountain Run is an annual late-fall race in Alamogordo, New Mexico, with the main miles on Scenic Drive at the base of the Sacramento Mountains. Runners can choose a half marathon, 10K, 5K, flat 1-mile fun run, or a four-person half marathon relay where each teammate covers 5K. The morning schedule starts with the half marathon, followed by the 10K and 5K together, then the 1-mile run. The event raises money for the Lady of the Mountain Scholarship at NMSU-Alamogordo, a needs-based scholarship for local students; recent participation added $13,000 to the scholarship endowment.
The race starts at Griggs Field sports complex on Fairgrounds Road, then heads onto Scenic Drive on a mostly north-south route. The 5K turns around across from NMSU-A, the 10K turns around at 10th Street, and the half marathon goes to the end of Scenic Drive before adding Alamo Canyon Road and a detour through Desert Foothills Park. The course is hilly, with open views toward White Sands National Monument and the Sacramento Mountains, and runners may see the rock formation called the “Lady of the Mountain.” Half marathon overall and masters winners receive cash prizes, and the top Otero County relay team gets a traveling trophy.
