About this race
The Liberty Station Relay and 5K is a Fourth of July running event held at NTC Park on Cushing Road in San Diego. Race day begins early, with check-in and registration opening at 7:00 AM and the 5K and relay events commencing at 8:00 AM. It accommodates both individual and team running: there is a 5K, a solo half marathon, half marathon and marathon relays, a Kids Dash, and virtual options for remote participants.
The route follows Liberty Station’s park paths, goes by historic naval architecture, and runs along the San Diego Bay waterfront. Relay teams can consist of two to five runners, with the half marathon relay divided into five legs and the marathon relay into ten legs. Team captains establish the team name and code, and relay team members join after the captain completes the team entry payment. The event embraces its Independence Day theme with the slogan "The Relay Where Freedom Runs," and it is designed for friends, families, coworkers, and run clubs, not solely for individual racers focused on time.
