About this race
Limestone Rocks! is a timed loop race at Limestone Park. Runners select either an 8-hour race beginning in the morning or a 4-hour race starting in the afternoon. Both races conclude at 5:00 PM CDT, meaning the shorter race merges with the longer one for the final portion. The format is straightforward: complete as many full loops as possible, report to the scorekeeper after each, and then choose to rest or continue.
The primary loop measures 1.65 miles, predominantly on crushed limestone with sections of asphalt, divided about equally between flat terrain and inclines. It features a brief, sharp downhill and a brief, sharp uphill, with a total elevation change not exceeding 50 feet. During the last thirty minutes, participants can opt for a quarter-mile out-and-back segment. However, only full loops are counted, and in case of a tie, the runner who completed their final loop earliest wins. The start/finish zone offers restrooms, an aid station, and room for personal setups; participants should supply their own preferred food and beverages. Personalized awards are given to pre-registered finishers, and net proceeds benefit the Kankakee Veterans Assistance Commission and Limestone Park.
