About this race
The Lobo Cancer Challenge brings together runners, walkers, cyclists, stair climbers, children, and virtual participants at UNM Lobo Football Stadium in Albuquerque every September. This community fundraising event benefits the University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center. It offers a 5K run/walk, 25- and 50-mile bike rides, a Stadium Stair Challenge, and the Cub Pack Fun Run for children ages 1 to 10.
The event emphasizes fundraising alongside racing. Sponsor support ensures that each dollar raised goes directly to the participant's selected area, such as patient treatment and support, cancer research, community outreach, or education and training. The stadium location contributes to a campus atmosphere, featuring a Participant Village, a Wellness Village, sponsor booths, and field activities complementing the athletic events. The funds support New Mexico’s only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, ranked among the top 3% of cancer centers nationally by its organizers.
