About this race
The MCHS Foundation Tumbleweed Triathlon is a sprint triathlon in Odessa, Texas, held at the University of Texas Permian Basin pool and campus. Taking place in July, it adheres to USA Triathlon rules. The course includes a 400-yard pool swim, a 20K bike ride, and a 5K run. Chip timing is used, helmets are mandatory for the bike leg, and the event is limited to 66 individual participants and 10 teams, making it a local, compact race.
The swim is conducted in a 50-meter pool using a snake format, where participants progress lane by lane. The bike course is flat, utilizing closed lanes around the UTPB campus. The 5K run is an out-and-back route on campus roads with minimal traffic. Participants must attend a pre-race meeting before the start. Packet pickup requires identification and either a USAT card or a one-day registration. This event supports the Medical Center Health Foundation and has been held for over twenty years.
