Mighty Mile - FREE RACE FOR KIDS - Jackson 2026

The Mighty Mile in Jackson is a free one-mile race exclusively for children ages 5 to 14, held at the Parkside Middle School Track. This event is part of the Michigan Running Foundation’s Mighty Mile series, which aims to encourage running and activity among children at various Michigan locations. The Jackson race is limited to the first 200 participants and requires online registration. Runners are divided into age-group races for 5-7, 8-9, 10-11, and 12-14 year olds, with boys and girls competing together in each category. The course begins on the Parkside Middle School Track, covering the initial quarter mile on the track itself. Participants then proceed around a loop on school grounds before returning to the track for the final quarter mile to the finish. The mile distance is precisely measured, and each runner is provided with chip timing via a disposable bib chip, with results posted immediately after the race. All finishers are awarded a Mighty Mile medal, a T-shirt, and a backpack. There are no specific awards, as the event focuses on personal achievement rather than competition for prizes. Parents are permitted to accompany their children, but strollers and dogs are not allowed on the course.
