About this race
The Newton Turkey Trot brings together over 1,000 participants annually at Zervas Elementary School in Newton for a Thanksgiving-season community run. Participants can select a USATF-certified 5K, while younger children and casual runners may opt for the 1K Fun Run. Those unable to attend in person can participate in a virtual race held during Thanksgiving week. The event collaborates with the Newton Food Pantry, linking race day to local food assistance.
The 5K course is certified and starts at the school, with a 1K option available for families. The race was established to promote youth awareness of health, wellness, and community service, and has generated over $130,000 for these initiatives. Attendees have the option to run, volunteer, or contribute financially. One past event honored founding member Tim O’Brien, featuring CPR classes in his memory and a planned memorial bench along a favored running path.
