About this race
The Pinehurst Triathlon Festival begins and ends at Pinehurst Marina in the North Carolina sandhills, with Lake Pinehurst central to the day. This spring triathlon is Round 2 of the North Carolina Triathlon Series, offering both International and Sprint Distance races. Athletes may compete as individuals, form two- or three-person relay teams, or select the aquabike format for the swim and bike segments only. The available race options are open to participants aged 13 and older.
The bike course utilizes quiet local roads with minimal traffic, and the run course circles Lake Pinehurst. The location contributes a distinct Pinehurst character: the marina, the lake, the sandhills, adjacent golf courses, and the Village of Pinehurst’s shops and restaurants are all situated near the event. The race has been a fixture in the North Carolina Triathlon Series since 1997, attracting the typical blend of series regulars, local triathletes, relay teams, and participants opting for the sprint or aquabike distances to suit their schedules.
