About this race
Pleasants Landing Triathlon takes place in October at Pleasants Landing Marina on Lake Anna, offering Olympic and sprint distances, as well as aquabike and relay categories. The Olympic race begins at 9 AM, followed by the sprint at 9:30 AM, lending the event a relaxed, lake-weekend atmosphere distinct from many early-morning triathlons. Situated near the close of the open-water season, the swim course presents a unique feature: it utilizes the southeast section of Lake Anna, adjacent to the area where the lake’s warmer “hot side” converges with the colder side.
The swim configuration typically results in water temperatures 4 to 6 degrees warmer than the remainder of the lake in mid-October, a notable factor for competitors before the cycling leg. The marina location and finish area are bordered by water, with the Blue Ridge Mountains visible to the west, allowing spectators to remain close to the event while immersed in the lake environment. This race is included in the Kinetic Multisports series and accommodates individual triathletes, aquabike participants, and teams of two or three.
