About this race
Pound The Pavement is an untimed 5K color run and walk in Bangor, Maine, benefiting the Purple Iris Foundation, which also serves nearby Brewer. Participants begin in white shirts and follow a relaxed, non-competitive course designed for participation and fundraising rather than speed. The event aids individuals affected by cancer, offering free registration to survivors.
The main 5K follows an expanded route where runners and walkers are doused with colored powder at each kilometer marker, finishing coated in it. Families can also participate: the Junior “Mad Dash of Color” is a short event for young children, complete with games and prizes. Post-race, attendees can gather at Sea Dog for two complimentary beverages, with adult options for those 21 and older. The Purple Iris Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, organizes the race, which has been held for over ten years.
