About this race
The Prisoner of War Trail Race is a November trail event at Camp Croft State Park in Spartanburg, South Carolina, with three distances: the POW 50k, the Infantry 25k, and the Semper Fi 8 Mile. The race starts at 9:00 AM and uses a 6:00 PM cutoff, so the longest option gives runners a full day on the trails. Registration includes entry into the state park, and Upstate Race Series organizes the event from its base in Greenville.
Camp Croft gives the race its identity: the park covers about 7,000 acres, and the land once served as a World War II training ground for more than 200,000 American soldiers. The event leans heavily into that history, calling the run a mission and treating the finish line as “extraction.” Runners get a custom bib, a finisher medal styled as a campaign ribbon, and a standard-issue gear pack after finishing. Donations through Upstate Race Series support local nonprofits, so the military theme sits alongside a local fundraising piece.
