About this race
The Race the Base Trail Run encircles Pinnacle Mountain State Park in central Arkansas, west of Little Rock. Fall trail races are based around the park’s Base Trail and Monument Trail system. The event offers a 4-mile loop, a Monumental Half Marathon of approximately 13 miles, and a free Kingfisher Kids Run for children 12 and under. The start is at Stuckey Field near Barrett Road and Highway 300, across from the park entrance in Roland. It includes a Halloween theme, with runners encouraged to wear costumes and prizes awarded for crowd-favorite costumes post-race.
The 4-mile course begins on gravel, briefly transitions to a paved path, then follows rocky, technical singletrack around the mountain’s base for most of its latter half. Its defining challenge is Joe’s Revenge, a steep climb of about 200 feet over one third of a mile, with King and Queen of the Mountain awards for the fastest climbers. The half marathon incorporates more of the Monument Trails and includes rolling climbs, rugged singletrack, and technical trail sections. The field is limited to about 250 runners, creating a community trail gathering atmosphere rather than a large road race.
