About this race
Run and bike on the rail-trail paralleling the Black Mesa & Lake Powell rail bed. Bike eight miles out, then run ten miles on the trail, then bike back. Expect warm high desert conditions; the start will be cool, but it warms quickly. Thunderstorms are possible, so bring raingear and footwear for potentially muddy surfaces. Aid stations offer Honey Stinger gels, snacks, fruit, Gatorade, and water. Bringing your own hydration system is recommended. Lodging is available at the campground at Navajo National Monument, less than half an hour from the start.
