About this race
The Little Rock Marathon takes place over a weekend in March in Little Rock, Arkansas, typically on the first weekend of the month. The primary event is a USATF-sanctioned marathon, eligible for Boston Marathon qualification, held on a certified single-loop course. A half marathon and other weekend events complement the main race, all adhering to an all-paces philosophy. It attracts participants from all U.S. states and over 15 nations. Extended time limits, eight hours for the marathon and four for the half, make it particularly welcoming for newcomers. The event supports Little Rock Parks & Recreation and provides a complimentary, year-round training program.
The marathon begins and concludes in Downtown Little Rock. It crosses the Arkansas River and goes by sites such as the Arkansas State Capitol, the River Market District, the Clinton Presidential Center, the Governor's Mansion, MacArthur Birthplace/Military Museum, and Historic Little Rock Central High School. The course presents moderate hills for a marathon, with a significant incline early on, followed by smaller ascents. Bill Rodgers described Little Rock as "a little salty." The race embraces spirited traditions, including a unique theme annually, participants in costumes, the couch potato mile, the Lipstick Stop for post-race pictures, and notably large finisher medals that reportedly increase in size each year.
