About this race
Ridge to River is a 4-mile and 10-mile trail race held in Barboursville Park, Barboursville, West Virginia. It begins and ends near Shelter 5. The race commences at 8am and marks its 17th year. Both distances share the initial section: the 4-mile race follows the first four miles of the 10-mile route. The opening eight-tenths of a mile ascends before participants enter dense woods and single-track trail.
The 10-mile course offers an extended exploration of the park, featuring approximately 2.5 miles alongside the Guyandotte River and a concluding 3.5 miles that are largely flat, save for a single steep incline. The final eight-tenths of a mile descends to the finish. The longer race includes three aid stations, all providing water; the middle station also offers Huma gels. The 4-mile race has no hydration stop. Brooks typically provides demo shoes and prizes, and participants receive a light breakfast post-race.
