About
The Rock the Quarry Triathlon and Mile Swim begins at Fidler Pond Park in Goshen, Indiana, on a summer Saturday morning. The location, formerly a rock quarry, lends its pond to a sprint triathlon and a separate mile swim. The triathlon's distances—a 500-yard open-water swim, a 15.8-mile bike ride, and a 3.1-mile run—make it suitable for new participants while remaining competitive.
The swim follows a counter-clockwise triangular path, starting and ending at the same point. Race day is significant as it marks the sole occasion annually when swimming in the quarry is permitted for the public. Following the swim, participants navigate a flat, out-and-back bike course that crosses an industrial park before heading toward Millersburg and returning. The run consists of two laps, and the triathlon can be completed individually or as part of a two- or three-person team.
