About this race
Runtastic FRIGID is a winter 5K held at Utah Lake State Park in Provo. A cold-water Penguin Plunge is available for runners seeking an extra challenge after the finish. The race begins in the morning. Participants may register for the 5K, the plunge, or both events. Taking place in January, the name accurately reflects the conditions: a short road-and-trail run followed by an optional winter dip in Utah Lake.
The 5K route utilizes the Provo Delta River Trailhead, with Utah Lake and the surrounding mountains providing the primary scenery. The plunge is a notable feature: organizers cut a square of ice from the lake, installing a safety cage in the opening before participants enter. All participants receive a FRIGID beanie and gloves. 5K finishers are awarded a medal, while plunge participants receive a penguin keychain and sticker. A portion of each registration fee benefits the Wolfpack Running Club.
