About this race
Salt Creek 24 offers runners and walkers a full day and night at Salt Creek Recreation Area in Port Angeles, Washington. The main event is straightforward: complete as many laps as desired on a short park loop, approximately 1.3 to 1.4 miles, individually or as a relay team. The course incorporates both paved and unpaved sections, allowing participants to set personal objectives rather than aiming for a predetermined distance. You have the option to run for the entire 24 hours, walk, alternate between running and walking, leave the course and return, or finish when you feel you have accomplished enough.
The loop begins and ends within the recreation area, providing views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca and forested areas with evergreens, moss, and ferns. Salt Creek 24 also features a distinct Last Runner Standing race, which presents a greater challenge than the short-loop format might suggest: participants ascend nearby Striped Peak hourly until a single competitor remains. This course spans 3.75 miles with over 1,000 feet of elevation gain per lap. The event is presented as the inaugural race of its type on the Olympic Peninsula, and the location incorporates some World War II history into the route.
