About this race
The Silver Bells 5K Race is a chip-timed run-walk through downtown Lansing, Michigan, held near the start of the holiday season, around Silver Bells in the City. It begins in the morning on a marked 5K course, suitable for runners aiming for a specific time and walkers participating in the event. Registration provides a long-sleeve shirt and a finisher medal, with awards for the fastest participants.
The race connects with Lansing’s holiday festivities, taking place the morning after Silver Bells in the City, and includes a costume contest. Categories feature traditional holiday outfits, festive sweaters, and holiday movie costumes. Volunteers photograph participants, winners are notified by email, and prizes are sent later. The event is sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network, with funds benefiting the Chris and Louise Holman Foundation, Silver Bells in the City, and local organizations assisting at-risk youth in Mid-Michigan. Donations have exceeded $66,000.
