About this race
The SRT Run crosses the Shawangunk Ridge Trail across the Shawangunk Mountains, offering 70-mile, 30-mile, and half marathon distances in September. The longest distance begins at High Point Monument in High Point State Park, New Jersey, with the entire trail extending north to Rosendale, New York. This is a minimalist, unsupported trail event, featuring generous cutoffs that accommodate both strong hikers and runners. The 70-miler remains challenging, with the race historically seeing approximately half of the participants not finishing.
The route utilizes a 70-mile hiking trail that spans the ridge's entire length, passing unique dwarf pine barrens, sky lakes, waterfalls, wetlands, undulating hills, and the Shawangunks' distinctive white conglomerate cliffs. These mountains uplifted nearly 300 million years ago, and their high points offer views across five states and over 100 miles. Run Wild, Inc. directs the race as a nonprofit endeavor supporting Hudson Valley conservation, established to honor the preservation of the Shawangunks. The event is designed for a low-friction experience for participants, with no packet pickup, bibs distributed at the bus or start, food and music at the finish, finisher medals, shirts, and Indigenous-crafted tomahawk awards for division victors.
