About this race
The Steamtown Marathon begins at Forest City High School in Forest City, Pennsylvania, and concludes at Courthouse Square in downtown Scranton. This fall road marathon is USATF certified and an official Boston Marathon qualifier. A wheelchair and handcycle marathon is offered alongside the main race. Entrants should be confident they can finish within six hours; the race does not offer deferrals.
The course descends 955 feet from start to finish, giving Steamtown a fast profile while still presenting the full 26.2-mile challenge. It travels through 14 communities and includes several mostly paved miles on the Rails to Trails path along the Lackawanna River before arriving in Scranton. The race benefits Saint Joseph's Center in Scranton. Runner and sponsor support has contributed over $2.6 million to the center since 1996.
