Swing the Gates 5k and 10k

Swing the Gates allows runners and walkers to enter Deception Pass State Park near Oak Harbor, Washington, before Cranberry Lake Campground opens for the season. The series includes a chip-timed 5K competition, a 5K Family Fun Run, and a 10K team scavenger hunt, suitable for those aiming for a specific time and for families treating it as a park outing. The 5K is mostly on paved surfaces, with a separate family start where strollers, young children, and dogs are welcome. The 10K sends teams of up to four onto park trails to solve clues, and the distance can vary depending on how efficiently the team works through the hunt. The event is cupless, so runners bring their own drinking container, and proceeds from the 5K support education and interpretation programs in the park. Winning 10K teammates receive Deception Pass State Park hoodies.
