About this race
The Bull Run for ALS of Michigan incorporates a baseball diamond into its course, with participants passing first base and concluding at home plate. The Midland race takes place at Emerson Park in Midland, Michigan, while the longer-established Milford event is situated at Kensington Metropark in Milford. The primary race is a chip-timed, accurately measured 5K suitable for both runners and walkers. A free Calf Mile is available for children aged 10 and under, and the series offers events named the InvisaBULL 5K and Toro Toro. All funds raised benefit ALS of Michigan and its support for individuals living with ALS in the state.
The event's name originates from Kenneth C. VanBlaricum, the founder's father, who was nicknamed “Bull” during his excavating career. The baseball elements connect to ALS history: the course passes first base, the position Lou Gehrig played, and the home-plate finish provides a brief tribute. Participants receive medals, with the design being a dog tag commemorating VanBlaricum's National Guard service. The Midland race is the recent addition to the series, whereas Milford has a longer history, sharing the same family narrative and ALS fundraising objective.
