About this race
The Rising begins near 7:30 AM in front of the Historic Sanctuary at First United Methodist Church, offering participants a choice between a 5K or 10K race. The Oviedo Run Club organizes this community race, which also features a Kids' Fun Run, less than a mile long, for younger participants.
The 5K and 10K races follow an out-and-back route on the Cross Seminole Trail, while the children's run takes place on a tree-lined road. Proceeds from the race benefit local charities such as HopeHelps, Inc. and the Oviedo Preservation Project. Area schools can form teams to compete for grants designated for the largest school groups. Cash prizes are awarded to the top male and female finishers in both the 5K and 10K, all finishers receive medals, and age-group awards are presented in five-year increments. The event also focuses on waste reduction through compostable cups, on-site recycling, and race packets containing practical items.
