About this race
The Wimpy Mile is a one-mile walk/run in downtown Dahlonega, Georgia, held on Valentine’s Day and hosted by the Dahlonega Sunrise Rotary Club. It begins at Hancock Park at 10:00 a.m., starting with a flat section before dropping 178 feet to the finish, earning it the title “fastest mile in Dahlonega.” The entry fee is $30, with the race serving as a significant fundraiser for the Rotary club.
The certified course descends Wimpy Mill Road to finish at the Yahoola Creek kayak launch. Fast runners have a clear objective: the first registered runner finishing under four minutes receives a $1,000 prize provided by Rotarian David Robertson. The event also welcomes walkers, families, younger runners, and costumed participants. Registered finishers receive medals, with awards for top male and female runners, separate awards for runners 12 and under, and a People’s Choice prize for the most imaginative costume. Following the finish, participants return to Hancock Park for awards and festivities. Transportation is provided for those who prefer not to walk the mile back.
