About this race
The Up and Running 4th of July 5K begins in El Paso at 7:04 a.m. on July 4. Up and Running is the organizer and race hub. It is a simple holiday 5K, not a long-distance event. The early start allows runners to finish before the day becomes too hot. This is the race's 19th year, and registration closes before race morning; there is no race-day signup or packet pickup.
The race provides the course map, and packet pickup is at Up and Running on North Mesa. The participants span a wide age range, with age-group awards from 9 and under to 70 and over, plus trophies for the top three men and women. The first 750 athletes are guaranteed technical shirts, and the first 750 finishers receive medals. After the race, runners receive hot dogs and cold watermelon. Proceeds support Run El Paso, a nonprofit that promotes health and fitness through running and community events.
