About this race
Wade Mountain is a fall trail race held at Wade Mountain Nature Preserve in Huntsville, Alabama, offering marathon, half marathon, and 10K distances. The marathon and half marathon are the only trail races of those lengths in North Alabama. The event has been held annually since 2016. It is limited to 250 participants, provides full support, and typically features mild racing weather with average temperatures between 51°F and 71°F.
The course is a 100% unpaved loop within the preserve, managed by the Land Trust of North Alabama. Runners should anticipate rocks, roots, and uneven terrain, with sufficient climbing and technical sections to challenge fast times. Local media have described it as one of the region's most demanding courses. While fall foliage provides a scenic backdrop, participants must also be aware of potential wildlife such as snakes and stinger bees, along with the typical hazards of a challenging trail marathon.
