About this race
The Whiskey Tango Foxtrot Trail Half Marathon & 5 Mile takes runners and ruckers to the trails of Northeast Park in Gibsonville, North Carolina, each January. The options are straightforward: a half marathon, a 5-mile race, and ruck divisions for both. An early start for the half marathon is offered to participants needing extra time and not competing for awards. This winter trail race acknowledges challenging conditions with a sense of humor; previous years have seen conditions ranging from warm and dry to cold and slick, and even a river that was too high to cross.
The half marathon includes the race’s distinct challenge: crossing the Reedy Fork River twice. The 5-mile race maintains the trail-running character without requiring the commitment of the half marathon. Participants attend for muddy footwear, uncertain terrain, and the “WTF” spirit as much as for their finish time, though chip timing and live results are provided. All finishers receive the event’s custom medal. Registration also covers a race hoodie, bumper sticker, race photos, post-race refreshments, and a beer. The race is also a component of the North Carolina Trail Mega Medal Series, attracting participants focused on accumulating the larger trail-series awards.
