About this race
The Wild West Relay is a 200-mile team running relay from Fort Collins to Steamboat Springs, held each August from Friday into Saturday. Teams complete 36 legs, typically with 12 runners in two vehicles or 6 runners in one vehicle for the Ultra division, and the field is limited to 100 teams. While a few individuals run it solo, the standard format is a shared relay where runners exchange the course over a long point-to-point mountain route.
The race begins at the Budweiser Brewing Plant in Fort Collins, proceeds north through Red Feather Lakes to Woods Landing in Wyoming, then heads south through Routt and Roosevelt National Forests. It passes Walden, crosses the Continental Divide at Rabbit Ears Pass, crossing two mountain passes in total, and concludes at Steamboat Springs Ski Resort. Run.Colorado Relays organizes and hosts the event, supported by over 150 volunteers; teams either provide volunteers or pay a fee benefiting the nonprofit Windsor Gives. The race features GPS tracking via MAProgress, and a short film, Run Wild, documents the runners' journey.
