Wolf Creek Canyon Relay
Sunday, October 4, 2026 · Wolf Creek, United States
Distances
45.1km
About this race
The Wolf Creek Canyon Relay covers 28.02 miles of road along the Missouri River in Montana. The start is on the frontage road off I-15 between Helena and Great Falls, six miles south of Wolf Creek. It takes place on the first Sunday in October, with staggered starts at 7:30 a.m. for slower teams and 8:30 a.m. for faster teams. The relay is structured around four timed legs, but participants can register as solo racers or in teams of two, four, or eight, with an additional option for military teams.
The course crosses Wolf Creek Canyon, not the town itself, requiring teams to manage their runners, exchanges, and support throughout the entire distance. Each standard leg uses chip timing. Eight-person teams have flexibility in dividing the legs, with these internal splits managed by the team and not chip-timed. This eight-person format increases accessibility, allowing runners to break down longer legs into shorter segments, effectively reducing a seven-mile leg to approximately 3.5 miles per runner. A five-hour time limit is in effect, and each participant pays an individual entry fee for race merchandise and timing at leg exchanges.
