Y Turkey Trot Charity 5K

The Y Turkey Trot Charity 5K is a Thanksgiving morning run, walk, and stroll held across multiple Maryland Y locations. The in-person field spans eight race sites, with a virtual 3.1-mile option available for those who prefer to participate on their own schedule during November. This event has been a holiday tradition for over 20 years, attracting approximately 16,000 runners and walkers annually. It fosters a community-wide family atmosphere rather than a competitive road race environment. All ages, from adults to children, along with dogs, are welcome, and the event accommodates all ability levels, not just seasoned racers. The race emphasizes fundraising alongside fitness. Registrations and sponsorships generate nearly a million dollars each year, supported by about 150 sponsors and 600 volunteers. These funds support Y programs such as preschool, camp, after-school care, and family center memberships for families. Participants also contribute thousands of canned food items, which the Y distributes via its community food pantries. One race site is located at Long Gate Shopping Center in Ellicott City.
