Empowering Future Leaders through Scholarships 5k Run/Walk 2026

The Empowering Future Leaders through Scholarships 5K Run/Walk takes place in late summer at North Central Park in Laredo, Texas. This 5,000-meter community event unites runners and walkers with a shared fundraising goal: providing scholarships, paid internships, and mentorship for students. The race supports a scholarship program for students in grades 4 through 12, extending beyond graduating seniors. Annually, six students receive awards, two per category, recognizing community improvement ideas and entrepreneurship. Recipients can participate yearly from fourth grade onward and are paired with a year-long mentor. A recent event attracted over 400 participants, with a post-race gathering of more than 600 attendees. Awards are presented to the top three finishers in each age group, and overall male and female winners receive trophies. Age divisions range from 10 and under to 70 and over.
