The Havelberg Triathlon begins with a swim in the old harbor on the Havel River, bordered by the historic old town. It is a compact multisport event, not a large-scale city production: the start, finish, and transition areas are located close together, keeping racers and spectators near the activity. The event also caters to families, offering a Little Harbor Triathlon for younger participants and aiming to make the sport accessible to a wider audience.
Following the harbor swim, athletes navigate a bike course the organizers describe as both challenging and quick, presenting more than a simple transition between the swim and the run. The run course circles the old harbor and passes through the competition arena. Camping is available nearby on the Spülinsel, adjacent to the run course. Swim & Bike and Bike & Run events allow athletes with injuries or limitations to participate without completing the full triathlon. Wetsuits are permitted, and the Olympic-distance race also functions as a state championship competition.
