À propos de cette course
Runners start and finish at Sportzentrum Hackenberg in Lennep for the Röntgenlauf, a Remscheid race day held annually on the last Sunday of October. The main event is a 63.3km ultramarathon on the Röntgenweg, a circular route around the city in Germany’s Bergisches Land. Marathon and half marathon options utilize sections of this course. The schedule also features races from 400m to 10km near Hackenberg, children’s cross races, a half-marathon category for walkers and Nordic walkers, a 3 x 21.1km relay, and a 100km race in certain years.
The long route is hilly, with approximately 1,250 to 1,370 metres of elevation gain. It guides runners through valleys, past old water hammers, and by traditional Bergisches half-timbered houses. The course passes under the Müngstener Brücke, Germany’s highest railway bridge, offers a view toward medieval Schloss Burg, and reaches the Eschbachtalsperre, Germany’s oldest drinking-water reservoir. Thousands of athletes participate, and the finish areas, particularly around Sportzentrum Hackenberg, attract local spectators. The name commemorates Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen, the X-ray pioneer born in Lennep.
