Weimarer Stadtlauf 2026

The Weimarer Stadtlauf is an October road race in Weimar, Thuringia, featuring an 11 km run and a 2 x 5.5 km relay. The start and finish are on Goetheplatz. The morning program also includes children’s races from 400 m to 1.2 km. The course is flat, so the primary challenge involves maintaining rhythm through the city rather than climbing. The route passes through Weimar’s old town and the Park an der Ilm, keeping runners near the city’s historic center. Over 1,500 runners, sometimes exceeding 2,000, participate, with thousands of spectators lining the streets. A key local detail is the race's integration into Weimar’s Zwiebelmarkt, the Onion Market festival, a three-day event attracting around 300,000 visitors. The Stadtlauf has been part of the festival since 1990, resulting in crowded streets, an early arrival recommendation, and a town-festival atmosphere near the finish.
