Arezzo

Arezzo sits on a gentle rise in the Val di Chiana, with rolling Tuscan hills starting immediately outside the city. Runners tackle the local 10km Scalata al Castello climb and the 5km Memorial Paolo Occhiolini races through town; cyclists head south and east into the gravel and asphalt routes that feed the La Chianina Unconventional Bike Adventure and Gran Fondo San Gottardo, both long-distance events that climb steadily into the Apennine foothills around 500–700 metres elevation. The terrain is relentless but never extreme—constant rollers with short steep pitches suit both road and gravel riders exploring the olive-oil and wine country between Arezzo and the Crete Senesi badlands to the south.
