Katowice

Katowice is a former mining city in Poland's industrial heartland, now a hub for urban running and cycling events across the Upper Silesian conurbation. Runners tackle the Runmageddon Katowice Hałda Kostuchna obstacle race on the dramatic spoil heaps around the city, while cyclists compete in the epic 390km Tour De GZM II Ultramaraton Rowerowy across the whole metropolitan area and the shorter Murckowski Rajd Rowerowy. The terrain is rolling rather than mountainous—old mining landscape with parks and towpaths—making it strong for endurance events and regional racing, though serious climbs require heading south toward the Silesian Beskids.
