SCF Svenska Mästerskapen Landsväg Kortdistans is Sweden’s short-distance road cycling championship, raced from Stora Torget in Karlstad as part of SM-Veckan. Riders do not ride a fixed distance: the women’s and men’s elite races run for 50 minutes, then a signal tells the field that three laps remain. Each class starts separately, and the format is simple to follow from the roadside because the circuit is only about 2 km long and the first rider across the line wins.
The short city loop makes the race fast, tactical, and unforgiving, with repeated corners and accelerations demanding bike control as much as raw speed. Lapped riders are pulled from the race, while riders with mechanical trouble can use a technical pit and receive a respit lap before rejoining in their previous position. The women’s field includes Matilda Frantzich, with recent championship finishes of second, first, and first, plus Clara Lundmark and professional rider Julia Borgström. In the men’s race, Lucky Sport and Motala AIF Continental bring strong teams, with sprinter David Larsson, U23 national team riders Teodor De Luca and Joel Mellby, and previous Umeå winner Hugo Forssell among the names to watch.
